SUMMER STEM PROGRAM 2024 @ College Garden Elementary School, Rockville MD

STEM Afterschool Academy is excited to offer a STEM camp each year. Your child(ren) can't miss this awesome opportunity to have loads of fun while learning about STEM through hands-on projects.  (Click on calendars and schedules for more detail.)


Summer 2024 STEM Camp Details:

  • Camp Hours:

    • Regular: Mon to Fri, 9am - 4pm

    • Fun after camp: 4pm – 6pm

  • Classes:

    • Budding Engineers: Rising K – 1st Graders

    • Young Engineers: Rising 2nd – 3rd Graders

    • STEM Explorers: Rising 4th – 6th Graders

  • Dates:

    • 24th June  - 2nd August  (Camp is closed 4th of July week)

  • Location:

    • CGES, Rockville, MD 20850

  • Fees 

    • $335/week (includes all materials)

    • $45/week for Fun After Camp

    • 5% sibling discount for younger sibling(s)

    • You may enroll/pay for the camp weekly.

    • Payment for 1st week is due upon registration  

    • Receive 10% off total fees if you enroll/pay for all 5 weeks at one time.

Adventures in Robotics

Youth will explore the state-of-the-art field of autonomous robotics as they work in teams to build, program and redesign autonomous robots. They will be introduced to electrical circuit theory, electrical component, programmable microcontroller interfacing, servo motors, photoresistors, infrared sensors and transmitters. This class also features several motivating robot programming competitions which will keep students alert, team-spirited and professional.

Intermediate Robotics

Youth who have basic experience in autonomous robotics will be eligible to  enroll in this program. Participants will work in teams on higher-level robotics concepts such as infrared sensors, touch sensors, environmental sensors and complex sound activities.  Youth will acquire problem solving skills by working in teams to carry out challenging tasks each week. They will also be given the opportunity to design a simple device using their robotics skills and tools.

Advanced  Robotics

Youth with experience in robotics design and programming will be assigned advanced projects which they will work on from conception stage to completion. Youth teams will be assigned graduate and undergraduate mentors who will work with them to create a project proposal, budget and timeline. Teams will them design, build and program machines that will solve specific problems in society. These devices will be presented to family, friends and members of the community at a Final presentation and awards ceremony at the end of the session.
